FiLiP: A File Lifecycle-based Profiler for hierarchical storage

چکیده
The increasing gap between computing speed and storage latency leads to possible I/O bottlenecks on massively parallel computers. To mitigate this issue, hierarchical provides multi-tiered configurations where each tier has its own physical characteristics associated performance. Selecting the most appropriate file placement policy is difficult there our knowledge no tool that systematically statistics metrics for optimal selection. In paper, we present FiLiP (File Lifecycle Profiler), a software which better understanding of access by applications consequences movements across storage. After description FiLiP’s main features architecture, highlight usefulness using three intensive simulation HPC applications: NEMO, S3DIO NAMD three-tiered burst buffer.

Dynamic Non-Hierarchical File Systems for Exascale Storage
Modern high-end computing (HEC) systems must manage petabytes of data stored in billions of files, yet current techniques for naming and managing files were developed 40 years ago for collections of thousands of files. HEC users are therefore forced to adapt their usage to fit an outdated file system model and interface, unsuitable for exascale systems. Attempts to enrich the interface, such as...

The object-based storage model, in which files are made up of one or more data objects stored on self-contained Object-Based Storage Devices (OSDs), is emerging as an architecture for distributed storage systems. The workload presented to the OSDs will be quite different from that of generalpurpose file systems, yet many distributed file systems employ general-purpose file systems as their unde...
متن کاملA Method for File Valuation in Information Lifecycle Management
ILM is based on the idea that in an enterprise different information have different values. Valuable information is stored on systems with a high quality of service (QoS). The value changes over time and therefore migration of information is required to cheaper storage systems with a lower QoS. Automated migration makes ILM dynamic. Such automation requires storage systems to understand what fi...
متن کاملPetabyte File Systems Based on Tertiary Storage
In a matter of a few short years, the computing industry has moved from terabyte storage systems to petabyte environments. While manufacturers and implementors alike are struggling with access to 1000’s of gigabytes, planners are requesting bids for systems in excess of 1,000 terabytes of data. The requirements for petabyte systems are much the same as for terabyte systems. Access must be the s...

propose a name space metric that is the sum of the distances from each file to the closest common ancestor. For files in the same directory, this metric would be zero. For two files, one in a sub-directory of the directory containing the other, this metric would be one. Other metrics under consideration include "file ownership" (e.g., files owned by the same user) and "file accessors" (e.g., fi...
